Lancome
Lancôme, which was founded in France in 1935 by Armand Petitjean, commemorated its 75th anniversary in 2010. Petitjean’s goal was straightforward: to create a cosmetics company that would deliver French eloquence all over the world. The name ‘Lancome’ came from the ruins of a castle, Le Château de Lancosme, and the roses in the neighborhood inspired the company’s symbol, a single golden rose.
Actresses, global fashion models, makeup artists and fragrance oil represent the brand. The brand has collaborated with emerging fashion designers, including architecture duo Proenza Schouler, who formed a dress inspired by Lancôme's Hypnôse fragrance.
Shyamala Maisondiue, Adriana Madina and Nadège Le Garlantezec are three female perfumers who collaborated to construct Idôle, a contemporary perfumy floral fragrance. A Centifolia Rose cultivated in France and an Isparta Rose Petal Essence from Turkey that was sustainably sourced for Lancome shine between bergamot, pear, Indian jasmine, Grandiforum and a new ‘clean and glisten’ accord notations.
The classiest neighborhood in Paris, the Faubourg Saint-Honore, is where Lancome’s history began. Armand Petitjean opened a store in 1935 attempting to sell a small number of perfumes and cosmetics that were produced not far from Paris. It’s hard to imagine that at the beginning there were only 3 perfumes, two eaux de Cologne, a face powder, and lipsticks when you’re standing in front of a Lancome counter today and dousing your way through the fragrances.
