This visionary cosmetics and fragrance entrepreneur was born in Canada in 1884 and opened her first spa on Fifth Avenue in 1910. Elizabeth Arden, who dropped out of nursing school, worked as a business manager at a Manhattan pharmaceuticals company, where she spent fascinating hours in the lab studying skincare.
